Introduction

dodge durango front Featuring a refined and quiet ride, the new 2007 Dodge Durango provides a handling edge not normally associated with sport-utility vehicles. A torsionally stiff, fully-hydroformed frame is linked to an independent front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering. Courtesy of frame dynamics, the suspension and steering are finely tuned to deliver a superior ride and precise steering feel. Dodge Durango's rear suspension is configured with coil springs and a solid rear axle that deliver a smooth ride with superior payload and towing capability. A Watt linkage system is fitted to the rear axle, centering the axle and reducing rear-end skate over rough surfaces. The result is a smooth ride and a best-in-class Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 6,600 lbs. and towing capacity of 8,950 lbs. The 2007 Dodge Durango interior is roomy and user-friendly with a functional, yet elegant design. With best-in-class cargo capacity, offering a best-in-class 68.4 cu. ft. of cargo room with the third-row seats folded, Dodge Durango easily surpasses other full-size SUVs. New for 2007, Dodge Durango offers optional second-row bucket seats with a center console, providing rear passengers a first-class environment. A standard 40/20/40-split second-row seat boasts seating for three adults, with ample shoulder, hip and legroom, available individual climate controls and DVD entertainment system, as well as reclining seat backs.

History

dodge durango Dodge Durango is listed as a mid-size SUV, but it's just about the biggest of the mid-size. It rides on one of the longest wheelbases, is one of the longest overall and has a maximum cargo capacity that's into triple digits, way more than the competition.

That extra size translates into excellent cargo carrying capacity. Total cargo volume is 102.4 cubic feet with both rear seats backs folded. The backs fold flat to create a flat floor for carrying almost anything. However, when I tried to put my golf bag back there, I discovered that the cargo width wasn't that great and I had to lower one side of the third row back to fit the bag in. On the other side of the coin, I could have lowered both sides, put four bags (or more) back there and still have had enough seating room for the foursome.

Technology

dodge durango Durangos can hold up to eight occupants when equipped with three rows of seats. A five-person configuration is also offered. Newly optional for 2007 are bucket seats for the second row. Steering is lighter than expected, and a comparatively soft suspension translates to an especially comfortable ride. This SUV can get a little woozy through repeated curves. Handling is less than ideal, even on the expressway, as the Durango is a little too inclined to edge out of its lane. Suspensions differ among the three engine choices, but not dramatically. Cargo volume behind the third row is 19 cubic feet; that space grows to 102.4 cubic feet when both rear seats are folded down. Second-row occupants get reclining seats, and an optional DVD entertainment system is available. Reversible slush mats are included in the Adventurer model, which has a rubberized, washable cargo liner. A navigation system is available.
